K6-92 / Borz SMG Spotted in Turkmenistan

The Journal of Ministry of Defense of Turkmenistan regularly publishes on their website images of defense events. One of their latest posts includes a number of images of what looks to be tactical exercises or maybe a demonstration of the armed forces capabilities. Among these images, you can spot an Armenian K6-92 (or its version made in Chechnya and called Borz) submachine gun.

K6-92 Borz SMG Spotted in Turkmenistan (4)

The K6-92 SMG was designed in the early ’90s in Armenia. It was developed to be simple and easy to manufacture firearm to be supplied to the Armenian forces during the Nagorno-Karabakh War. At some point, samples of the K6-92 SMG appeared in Chechnya where they started manufacturing copies of the weapon and renamed it Borz. Later, this submachine gun was spotted in police seizures in many former Soviet countries. It is unknown how the K6-92 or Borz SMG was obtained by Turkmenistan.

The K6-92 SMG is chambered in 9x18mm Makarov. It utilizes a simple blowback operation mechanism and fires from an open bolt. The charging handle is located on top of the receiver. The safety selector lever also doubles as a fire mode selector allowing to fire the gun in single shot or full-auto modes. Reportedly, it has a rather high rate of fire of 1,000-1,200 rpm.
