FN 1906 Pistol Attributed to Iranian Prince Abdul Reza

In one of our previous articles, we talked about the gold-plated Tariq pistol attributed to Saddam Hussein and auctioned at the Rock Island December 2018 Premiere Firearms Auction. Today, we’ll take a look at another interesting lot from that auction – an FN 1906 pocket pistol that presumably belonged to the Iranian Prince Abdul Reza Pahlavi.

This lot was accompanied by a letter that was claiming the pedigree of the gun. Here is the description of this lot quoted from the Rock Island Auction Company’s website followed by the scanned copy of the mentioned letter:

Included with the pistol is a letter from Jay Dewing of Dewings Fly and Gun of West Palm Beach, Florida. In the letter, Dewing identifies this pistol by serial number as “factory grade 2-3 engraved, and has factory mother of pearl grips”. Additionally, the letter attributes the pistol a having been from the collection of “Prince Aboraza, stepbrother of the Shah of Iran”, having been acquired from the prince’s son. Aboraza is further described as having been a former head of SAVAK, the Organization of National Intelligence and Security of the Nation, Iran’s combined secret police and intelligence service. Fixed sights, with a set of leafy vine and punch dot engraving on the slide and frame, along with the standard markings, a full-nickel finish and a set of smooth mother of pearl grips. Included with the pistol is a green leatherette case with a blue velvet lined French-cut interior and an extra nickel finished magazine.

I assume the prince’s name was simply misspelled in the letter.

This lot was in perfect condition retaining the 98% of its nickel finish and showing some minor handling wear marks. Mechanically, the pistol was also in perfect condition. The lot was sold at Rock Island December 2018 Premiere Firearms Auction for $4,600.
