This is the third part of a series of articles about weapons of the “Delta Defence Group”, of which the first two parts were published in late 2019 and early 2020. The first part about the pistol can be found here, and the second part about the rifle can be found here. In this article we will examining the Delta Defence Group ‘Glock’ pistol.
In 2020 a Glock 19 Gen 3-pattern pistol with “D.D.G. 19” (Delta Defence Group) markings began to appear in Iraq. The pistol’s slide is very similar to that of a Glock 19 Gen 3 but the frame appears to be only inspired by the Glock 19 Gen 3’s frame and has been heavily modified. The “D.D.G.” ‘Glock‘ features a picatinny rail, a differing profile to the trigger guard with sharper corners and a flat face, extended texture on the frame, and different shaped finger grooves while the texture of the grip itself is distinctly un-Glock – all of these features differ to those of the original Glock 19 Gen 3 frame.
Although there is a Turkish company named “Delta Defence Savunma Sanayi A. Ş.” their name fits only partly and logo doesn’t match that of the “Delta Defence Group”, their catalog also does not feature any of the previously documented “D.D.G.” weapons.

A near-exact pistol, however, is also offered in the online catalog of Israeli arms manufacturer Emtan. The Israeli pistol, however, is marked “RAMON” on its slide. The RAMON differs in its markings and some slight contouring to the slide. The pistol’s frame is extremely similar with the same texturing and profile as the D.D.G. 19. Emtan also offers the RAMON with different frame colors, including: black, green, gray and tan but the D.D.G. 19 has only been seen with a black frame.

The origin of this “D.D.G.” and other “D.D.G.” weapons may be Turkey. Since the 1990s arms factories in Turkey have been sub-contracting and producing parts or entire weapons for foreign customers. Take the IWI (Israeli Weapon Industries) TS12 revolving shotgun as an example. The TS12 is identical to the Turkish Armsan MPS-12 revolving shotgun. In 2017 Armsan submitted the patent to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, in which they patented the special revolving three-chamber magazine, which appears to be used in the MPS-12 and the IWI TS12. A year later in 2018 the IWI TS12 was released and another year later Armsan first publicly showed their MPS-12 (but the MPS-12 seems to have appeared first, in a 2018 Armsan catalog). The details on who actually manufactures both shotguns are murky, but some sources claim that both are made by Armsan.

Also other weapons such as the series of Bul Armory Cherokee and Cherokee Compact pistols appear to be based on the Turkish Sarsilmaz B6 and B6C. The same can be said with other pistols like the Tanfoglio Force and Force Compact which are close to the Sarsilmaz B6 and B6C, JAWS JTP-9 and JTP-9C which are in turn similar to the Bul Cherokee. For more information and comparison picture check out the first part of this series about the “Delta Defence Pistol” here.

Turkey’s arms industry is based on contractors and sub-contractors, the MPT-76 (Turkish military primary service rifle) has three different manufacturers MKE, Sarsilmaz, and Kalekalip. It is possible that the factory or factories who produce and sub-contract these weapons or at least parts of them also acquired the molds and tooling for a Glock-pattern pistol and produces them under the name “Delta Defence Group”.
Interestingly, another ‘Delta Defence Group’ marked Glock-pattern pistol has appeared in Idlib. A Glock 19 Gen 3 slide with “DELTA DEFENCE GROUP” in capitals marked on the front half of the slide in a milled recess. It is in the possession of a Chechen fighter with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s sub-group “Liwa Muhajireen wal-Ansar”. The markings appear to be locally applied and the frame appears to be more closely patterned after a Glock 19 Gen 3 slide, and may be an authentically made Glock frame.
