Meprolight Produces New MIL-STD Mepro TIGON Sight

The Israeli company Meprolight released their new red dot/uncooled thermal imaging sight, the TIGON, at Paris’s MILIPOL 2021 exhibition (October 19-22, 2021). The new optic includes a red dot sighting system working in conjunction with the x2 thermal sighting system allowing the user to effectively engage targets out to 150 meters (although 200 meters has been discussed as the true effective range) day or nights.

The system boasts a high accuracy zeroing system with a wide field of view in both day and thermal modes. The TIGON also is able to utilize its built-in light sensor for seamless auto-adjustment of the day reticle brightness (four red dot brightness settings are built into the system). With the use of the sights video-out interface, the TIGON has the ability to stream video to connected screens and communications systems.

In addition to the increased capabilities of the optics platform, the TIGON boasts features that will ensure that hard use and extended periods of operation will not hamper the full functions of the system. The TIGON’s red dot capabilities have a reported operating time of thousands of hours in day mode. While the thermal sight will operate for more than five continuous hours when in use. The power-saving mechanism built into the sight provides maximum energy efficiency, while preventing compromised reticle availability. And to add to the already stout energy efficient nature of the sight, the TIGON will be powered by two commercial “AA” batteries and be compatible with military standard Picatinny rail (Mil-Std 1913 rail).

The optic weighs 500g and according to Meprolight the TIGON should be 30 percent cheaper than a competing standalone thermal sight.

David Shenhav, Meprolight SVP Sales & Marketing – Defense, said:

“The Mepro TIGON was developed in direct response to the needs of military, security, and law enforcement users for a sight that both, has high performance capabilities, and is cost-effective enough to enable large-scale fielding for significantly increasing numbers of night-combat enabled users within forces. It efficiently supports seamless transition between day and night operations combined with changing tactical scenarios, all while subject to harsh environmental and weather conditions. The system is already in the process of being evaluated by the IDF and introduced to select forces around the world.”

More details and the full specifications aren’t available yet.
